What Is Supply-Chain Management?

One journalist says it is just the process of moving stuff. Less than two decades have passed since supply-chain started to replace logistics as the popular term for moving stuff.

Clarity of language has something to do with the rapid growth of the new terminology. Logistics originated in the military, and many people still don't know what it means. Yet everyone knows exactly what a chain is, and we can all define supply.

When supply-chain management works as it should, it orchestrates demand and supply decisions from and to and. It starts with raw materials and ends with delivery of a finished product to the ultimate consumer.
