Are Leaders Born or Made?
A Chicken or Egg Argument

This is a perennial debate, and there are no winners. Yet certain facts are self-evident: not everybody wants to be a leader, and those who would rather be followers should never be pressured to change role. Those who want to be leaders can practice a set of skills that will improve their performance. The military is undoubtedly the world expert in the process of teaching leadership. In combat, there is a chance that the leader will be removed from command, and therefore the next leader must be readily available.

The late Professor Warren Bennis was the disciple of corporate leadership who claimed that most corporations are over managed and under led. The makeup of leadership changes over time. In today's environment, a leader can no longer crack the whip and demand that people conform. Today's warehousing leader is more of a mentor than a drill sergeant.
