The best companies position themselves as learning organizations. They recognize that people stay with a company when they feel they are learning and making progress.
E-learning is a newer form of instruction, and it has three varieties:
- Synchronous instruction is delivered live, with simultaneous participation by student and instructor.
- Asynchronous learning happens when the instructor and student are separated by both location and time. The instruction materials are therefore pre-recorded.
- Blended learning includes features of the other two, plus traditional classroom and on-the-job training.
In considering the three options, recognize that learning occurs regardless of how the instruction is delivered. No one stops a motivated person from learning, and some do it just by observation. Therefore, motivation is clearly the most important element of teaching and learning.
